CRAFT VILLAGE TOUR Friday, October 29, 9:00 am- 1:00 pm
Visit the village of San Bartolo Coyotepec, famous for its tradition of making black pottery in the technique preserved through the generations of Zapotec craftsmen and women. You will be welcome to view the process of making pots on the inverted saucers known as the Zapotec wheel.
And then to the small town of San Martin Tilcajete to visit the famous wood carvers who create extraordinary polychromatic wood carvings in the shapes of animals and mythical beasts. The artisan families work together as a unit, yet each person maintains his own brand of skill and ingenuity.
Our next stop on this tour is the old city of Ocotlán (which means 'place of pines') located just 18 miles outside Oaxaca Ciy, famous for its unique rambling Friday market and restored 16th century colonial church.

Dont miss this most spectacular presentation of the traditional dances of the 'Guelaguetza' - a magnificent selection indigenous dance forms from the seven regions of Oaxaca. Held in the beautiful 16th century chapel, the evening offers a sumptuous Oaxacan buffet, 20 regional dancers in glorious costumes and a 14 piece village brass band. An exhilarating evening of rich folkloric tradition in a majestic setting.
XOXOCOTLAN CEMETERY TOUR Sunday, October 31. Depart at 7:00 pm
Dia de Los Muertos is a solemn, but not in any sense a grief-stricken, celebration. It has, curiously, a jocular side. Decorations and flowers are everywhere, special bread is in all bakeries, and sugar skulls are to be had in all sizes, with Christian names displayed on their foreheads.
Be sure to bring flowers and candles, so you too can participate in the preparation of this great homecoming.

There are so many things to do and see in Oaxaca! Here are some suggestions:
Visit Monte Albán and Mitla archaeological sites.
Visit the Botanical Garden.
Visit the traditional markets in the city and throughout the central valleys.
Visit the Zapotec weaving village of Teotitlan del valle.
Visit the museums and galleries in the historic center, displaying traditional and contemporary art.
Dont miss out on the very thing you come to Oaxaca for - not only the sights and sounds that will surround you, but also the insights and pleasure that come from spending time with local people in a relaxed and easy way.
